Meaning and history
The monochrome figure belongs to the hard surface of the street, while the bright red balloon appears light, fragile and alive. A unique 2006 canvas version became art-market history in 2018 when it passed through a shredder hidden in its frame after being sold at Sotheby’s. The transformed work became known as Love Is in the Bin.
