Written and directed by Wade Wofford, Urban Ed is inspired by actual events and was filmed in real Massachusetts schools. The drama follows Aryana and four friends as the closure of their small charter school suddenly changes the course of their education.
The students—not a saviour—take centre stage
Aryana already carries responsibilities far beyond the classroom. When the state announces that her school will close, she and her friends must confront what the decision means for their education, relationships and futures.
Transferred into a much larger and overcrowded school, the students enter an environment where space, attention and belonging are scarce. The story unfolds across an academic year and explores the education young people receive at school, at home, in their neighbourhoods and from a divided society.
